Babbles & Play

A prelinguistic playgroup for little ones 15–18 months, guided by a licensed speech-language pathologist.

Somewhere between first steps and first words, babies are doing a lot of important communicating — through babbles, gestures, pointing, and play. Babbles and Play is a small, guided playgroup where your child can build these early "prelinguistic" skills alongside other little ones, with a licensed speech-language pathologist right there to support the journey.

This isn't a class you sit and watch — it's hands-on, playful, and rooted in the everyday moments that help babies move toward their first words.

What We Focus On

Between 15 and 18 months, babies are building the foundation for spoken language: joint attention, intentional gestures like pointing and reaching, turn-taking, imitation, and using sounds purposefully to get their needs met. These prelinguistic skills are strong predictors of later talking, and they're best nurtured through play.

Each session is designed by Judy Batista, M.S., CCC-SLP, to gently support:

  • Joint attention and eye contact

  • Intentional gestures (pointing, showing, reaching)

  • Vocal play and sound imitation

  • Turn-taking and back-and-forth interaction

  • Simple play-based routines that invite communication

What to Expect

  • Comprehensive Screenings: Assess your child’s communication abilities and tailor personalized goals.

  • Weekly Playgroups: 60-minute sessions led by trained student interns under licensed speech pathologist supervision.

  • Parental Involvement: Participate alongside your child to create a supportive, collaborative learning environment.
